POPPED! Music Festival and Philadelphia

Be sure to check out this week’s POPPED! Music Festival in Philadelphia. Taking place on Friday September 23rd and Saturday the 24th in FDR Park, this festival will surely cure your depression over the end of the summer festival season. POPPED! will feature an extensive lineup of big time performers such as The Shins, Pretty Lights and Girl Talk. The festival has made a comeback this year to the excitement of Philadelphians and out-of-towners alike, and FDR Park is the perfect place for it. Located in South Philadelphia, this green oasis nestled within the city is comprised of grassy fields and lakes. There’s no better way to enjoy Philadelphia in the fall than listening to some awesome music in FDR Park.

While POPPED! will no doubt provide plenty of entertainment, the City of Brotherly Love has much more to offer. Whether you’re a history buff, a sports fan, an artist, or just looking for some fun, you’ll be able to find something good. Here are some suggestions after the jump.

Lollapalooza Day 2

Day 2 is what I had been waiting for the most. Friendly Fires had an afternoon set on the Bud Light stage, one of the two main stages. As I had previously mentioned in an earlier post, I had been wanting to see them for the longest time, but there was a schedule conflict between them and Skylar Grey. But after catching Skylar at Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco a couple weeks back, I was able to eliminate that conflict.

Lollapalooza 2011 Preview

Music festivals like Lollapalooza are experienced a little differently by those of us who are shorter than 5’5”. We are easily lost in a swarming crowd, mistaken for empty spaces in the audience, and bound to end up standing behind a 7’ tall man who will inevitably throw his girlfriend on his shoulders at some point during the show. This generally leads to a night ending in the affirmation “well, at least I could hear the music…” However, thanks to the 20th Anniversary Time Capsule, I discovered that as of 1994, Lolla outlines a particular loophole for us shorties that raises us taller than the rest:  Crowd surfing is prohibited UNLESS you are a certified waif. Woe no more, fellow pint sized music festival lovers.
