Thanksgiving break is nigh upon us, but that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in the wonderful events going on this weekend. Katie K. and Lucia C. have found a little bit of everything, so grab your friends and start spreading some holiday cheer. It’s Wednesday and we’re getting ready for the weekend.

Taste & Tribute San Francisco @ Four Seasons Hotel | Friday, November 18

The 11th annual Taste & Tribute benefit gala for the Tibetan Aid Project is taking place this Friday at the Four Seasons. The event features a silent and live auction as well as a four-course gourmet meal. Inspired by the desire to aid Tibet, Chef Laurent Manrique first organized this event in conjunction with the Tibetan Aid Project in 2001, and it’s been a hit ever since. This year, he has brought together a star roster of 23 of San Francisco’s top chefs, and they will be cooking up a storm. Working in pairs, the chefs will prepare table-side meals for attendees. Proceeds from the event go to the Tibetan Aid Project, which works to preserve and perpetuate Tibet’s spiritual heritage.

Glenlivet Nights of Passage @ The Nine | Monday, November 14 to Friday, November 18

If you’ve ever wanted to figure out what people mean when they say something like: “The fruity notes in this whisky are finished off with a lingering smoky flavor on the palate. Is that a hint of clove I detect?” – this is your chance to find out. Glenlivet has been hosting guided scotch whisky tastings all week at The Nine Studios in SOMA, and it’s free to attend. All you have to do is register and RSVP on their website. You’ll be talking like an expert in no time.

Michael Ian Black @ Cobb’s Comedy Club | Thursday, November 17 to Sunday, November 20

Michael Ian Black is bringing his stand-up act to Cobb’s Comedy Club. He started out on MTV’s The State and had a supporting role on Ed, and gained greater notoriety with Comedy Central’s Stella and Michael and Michael Have Issues. If you’ve seen him on TV, you know that his comedy is absurd, awkward and absolutely hilarious. Get your friends together and have some laughs to get you ready for the week of festivities to come.

60/30, New Work From Blek le Rat @ 941 Geary | Saturday, November 19 to Saturday, January 7

The rise of graffiti as a legitimately recognized art form has been in the making for years. With help from a little documentary called Exit Through the Gift Shop, street artist Banksy entered the mainstream stage and his stencil paintings can now be recognized by all of your friends and their parents. Long before Banksy became a household name, Xavier Prou, aka Blek le Rat was running around Paris creating stencil paintings of animals and images of the working class. Prou, often referred to as the “godfather of stencil art,” is a major influence in the rise of street art and a key player in contemporary pop art. His biggest art show to date opens at 941 Geary in San Francisco on Saturday November 19 and will remain on display until January 7. With the recent Occupy movements on the minds of many, Blek le Rat’s exhibit holds a strong representation as an art of working class people.

Winter Carnival & Embarcadero Center Lighting Ceremony @ Justin Herman Plaza | Friday, November 18
